Paddock Posts

Paddock posts provide strong, reliable support for agricultural fencing, equestrian enclosures, and rural boundaries. Commonly used with post and rail fencing, wire netting, or line wire systems, timber paddock posts offer a practical and cost-effective solution for creating secure outdoor spaces.

Pressure treated for external use, paddock posts are designed for ground contact and long-term performance when correctly installed. Available in a range of lengths and diameters, they can be driven directly into softer ground or set in postmix for added stability in harder conditions.

Whether you’re fencing paddocks, fields, gardens, or animal enclosures, paddock posts form the backbone of a durable fencing system and are suitable for both trade and domestic projects.

How deep should paddock posts be installed?

As a general guide, posts should be installed to a depth of around 600mm (2ft). This provides good stability while leaving enough height above ground for fencing. Taller fences or softer ground may require deeper installation.

What spacing should I use between paddock posts?

Typical spacing is around 1.8m (6ft), though this can vary depending on fencing type, rail length, and how much strength is required. Corner and end posts should always be installed more securely as they take the most load.

Do I need rails with paddock posts?

Rails aren’t always essential, but strongly recommended as adding timber fence rails increases rigidity and provides fixing points for wire netting. Rails are recommended for longer fence runs, taller fencing, or permanent installations.

What are paddock posts commonly used for?

Paddock posts are widely used for:
