Full Description

3.0m x 75mm x 47mm Cant Rail – Pressure Treated Brown

This 3.0m cant rail is pressure treated to UC4 standard in a brown finish, ideal for closeboard fencing installations that demand extra strength and extended bay widths. Cut using the (2EX) method, two cant rails are produced from a single 125mm x 47mm timber length. The resulting board measures approximately 75mm x 47mm and features a chamfered top edge for water runoff.

Cant rails are fitted so that each length sits half on a fence post, allowing two rails to join centrally and maintain a consistent, uniform line along the fence run. Fix in place using 100mm galvanised nails for timber posts, or use timber screws or cup square bolts if installing into concrete recessed posts.

This 3.0m length is often used with post centres of either 3.0m or reduced to 1.8m when additional strength is required.

Installation Systems

Traditional Timber System

Use with wooden fence posts and wooden gravel boards for a classic, fully timber build. Pair with post saver sleeves for rot protection at ground level.

Heavy-Duty Concrete System

Install with concrete recessed posts and concrete gravel boards for a long-lasting, rot-proof framework. Fix cant rails using bolts or exterior-rated screws into pre-drilled concrete posts.

Rail Guidance by Fence Height

  • 2.4m and above: 4 rails

  • 1.8m and 1.5m: 3 rails

  • 1.2m: 2 rails

Materials related to Wooden Cant Rail

  • Featheredge Boards – Tapered boards used to form the vertical face of closeboard fencing.

  • Wooden Fence Posts – Compatible posts for use in traditional fencing builds.

  • Concrete Fence Posts – Rot-resistant posts ideal for high-durability closeboard systems.

  • Gravel Boards – Protects the base of the fence and adds structural height.

  • Post Saver Sleeves – A cost-effective solution for extending timber post life at ground level.

  • Postcrete – Ready-mix concrete used to fix posts securely in place.

How do you install cant rails?

To install cant rails, ensure each rail spans between posts and sits halfway onto each post face. This allows for the next rail to continue from the same point. Start at the bottom and space additional rails evenly upward, fixing securely using nails, screws, or bolts depending on your post type. Be sure to align the chamfered edge facing upward and outward for proper water runoff.
