The Story of Clarke Fencing: From a Family Farm to a Trusted Local Supplier

It all began in 1984, when David Clarke started Clarke Fencing from his family farm in Suffolk. In the early days, the business focused purely on fencing installation, running just a few vans from a small yard equipped with basic materials and a forklift. Most of the work involved fencing at building sites and domestic properties, where the team’s reliability and attention to detail quickly earned them a trusted local reputation.

📸 The pictures above show the entrance to Clarke Fencing’s first yard, before our move to Stowmarket. Taken towards the end of our time there, they capture just how tight for space we were — stacking concrete posts and fence panels wherever we could on the limited hardstanding area.

With our old trucks, forklifts, and a small team working hard to keep up with demand, those photos really show how far Clarke Fencing has come, from humble beginnings on a family farm to the busy one-acre site we proudly operate from today.

Growing Beyond Installation

As the years went on, Clarke Fencing began to grow, not just in size, but in ambition. By the late 2000s, the small farmyard operation had reached its limits. Recognising the potential to do more than installations, David and his two sons, Kevin and Jason, made the bold decision to reinvest everything into expanding the business.

They took a major step forward and purchased a new one-acre site at the recently built Stowmarket Business Park, putting it all on the line to secure a future where Clarke Fencing could evolve into something greater: a full-service supplier of fencing, timber, and landscaping materials.

The move proved transformative. From 2012 onwards, the new yard allowed Clarke Fencing to open its doors not only to contractors and tradesmen but also to homeowners and landscapers looking for quality materials at fair prices.

With a much larger site, better facilities, and a growing range of stock, Clarke Fencing quickly flourished. The business built a loyal customer base across Suffolk and beyond — thanks to hard work, family values, competitive pricing, and honest advice.

It’s a great snapshot of our journey and a reminder of the hardworking people who helped lay the foundations for the company we are today.

Building a Reputation for Quality and Service

Over the years, Clarke Fencing has become known for its knowledgeable staff and friendly approach. Many of the team have been with the company for years, sharing the same passion for helping customers find exactly what they need — whether it’s a few closeboard fence panels or a full pallet of timber sleepers.

Our emphasis has always been on quality, reliability, and community. We take pride in being a local, family-run business that treats every customer — trade or domestic — with the same level of care and respect.
